Concerts and Chaos

Maybe I'm getting old, but somehow I am losing touch on how and why youngsters love certain things. Attending concerts for example. While it is good fun and all, but there are really a lot of things that can ruin your enjoyment. This is the place where people:

*Shove at each other. I don't get it. Why the hell people do that? This leads to some people:

*Squeeze their way in front. Sorry, it sucks to be short. But if you want to be front and centre, arrive to the venue EARLY, like an hour early (The place fills up like mad once the gates are open).

*Smoke amongst the crowd. Really? Don't you know not everyone prefers to inhale tobacco unlike you? At least bear it for a while until the show is over. Or move away to light up. Also, there ARE minors there.

*Endure the rain, sweat and suffocation. Also, people jumping all over and step on your feet. Think really hard before you come.

Well I went to the All-American Rejects concert on Halloween. The show was worth the wait, let just say the experience could be better. On the positive note, the songs they perform are pretty good. From usual crowd pleasing "Dirty Little Secret", "Swing, Swing", "My Paper Heart", "Move Along" and "It Ends Tonight", and also the songs from their recent album: "Gives You Hell", "The Wind Blows", "I Wanna" and more. Tyson the lead singer is a hoot, entertaining and funny.

Advice to Reality Show Contestants

Before you can actually sign up for anything to be featured on a TV show. Here's a few things you need to consider

American Idol:
*If you can't sing, don't bother auditioning.

*Making silly gimmicks, costumes or other craziness WILL NOT be taken seriously.

*If you're not liked by Simon, don't bother changing his mind. Quit even though you're through.

Survivor:
*If you cannot stand the heat, monsoon rain in random times, don't sign up.

*Backstabbing is necessary trait. Never think you can be super nice to win. That's really rarely happen.

Amazing Race:
*If you cannot swim, drive a manual car, afraid of heights, water, wild animals etc. Don't sign up.

*If you're actually facing your fears, suck it up and do it. Don't whine and complain.

*If you cannot appreciate foreign cultures, don't bother signing up.

America's Next Top Model
*You must be at least 5'7". Sorry, if you're short, you're standing no chance in the real world.

*If you are 23 and above, don't bother starting out as a model. Unless you look REALLY, REALLY youthful.

*You really have to endure Tyra's craziness to survive.

*Bitchiness is a plus.

Watched a few of the episodes and Here's what I feel:

I LOVE this show. But somehow the show seems to make efforts to make me hate it.

For example, Will Schuester. God knows why he loves to relive his old days with his boy bands and all that. Ugh. And still oblivious to know that his wife is faking a pregnancy to keep his marriage!

The stereotypes are overplayed. The gay one, the sassy black woman, the dumb jock. Whatever.

The Auto-tuning of the singers. Ugh, makes me pissed off. Why cast good singers when you want to auto tuned to death? Especially Finn, whose voice is the worst of the bunch.

But there are things that I love too.

Principal Figgins is awesome to watch. If you ever catch his Mumbai Air ad (in the show), it is downright hilarious!

Sue Sylvester, the cheerleader coach, is awesome. Her quotes are so random it's so funny. And she is deliciously evil. I like!

Switch the Channel

I remember the last time I did blog about the music nowadays being such a crap fest that people will just listen to without even considering that the particular song even make any sense. I think television is quickly following to sunk its quality.

Back in the day when TV is pretty much a staple entertainment in most families, there were pretty good shows that is surely suit someone's tastes. Comedies are cleverly written and are actually funny, some intrigued story lines for dramas and some really, really good sci-fi and adventure TV shows. I think that stopped around early 2000s.

What happened? Reality TV. I admit, I am a sucker in some of the show in this genre. Some reality shows are really crappy (watch the ones in MTV), some just drag people out from their everyday lives and put them into a competition, or just in a house with cameras. Boy, some people did just anything for the camera. I mean ANYTHING.

What about the wholesome ones? Well there are still new dramas/sitcoms and actual scripted shows featuring REAL actors, unfortunately they weren't as popular as they used to be. No, not because they suck, but people just prefer to watch either-the run-of-the-mill spin offs of the same genre (I can even tell you which one are these: Cops, hospitals and lawyers). Or the reality crap as described above.

Furthermore, I am pretty pissed that there are already 3 shows in the same network had been canceled. All of them are pretty new TV shows and all of them are pretty different than the rest. I'm refering to ABC's decision to yank off Eli Stone, Pushing Daisies and Dirty Sexy Money. 2 of them I just started to appreciated.

Ah well, it seems to be there is no future of creative writing in TV shows. One can only hope it will be better in the future, once people realize there are better shows on DVD than the ones currently showing on TV.

Distractions... Bad

Wow didn't update my blog lately with a LOT of my tv shows coming back....Bad news for my important things like assignments!

Just a little rundown of shows I'm watching:

*America's Next Top Model, Cycle 11 - OMG, they managed to beat their cheesiness in each cycle! I also noticed Tyra Banks has becoming an major attention-seeking-whore than she have ever had.

*Survivor: Gabon, Season 17 - They still doing this show? Anyways, old formula new twists, dumber contestant. Now I'll cut them some slack if they start to make silly decisions when it's day 16 or so due to lack of food, good sleep etc. But in day 3? Damn.

*Ugly Betty, Season 3 - Some real character changes in this season. Can't wait how well they adapt to their new lives.

*Desperate Housewives, Season 5 - Started the show with a 5 year jump! Wow so much has happened and it resets the whole plot. This show has better getting better and better.

*Heroes, Season 3 - Still epic as ever, though I haven't really warmed up to this season yet. I just have to wait and see

Need for Speed: Undercover

First thoughts: Wow! Finally actual street racing is back in Need for Speed.Don't really like pro street to be honest, and I missed the gameplay Most Wanted and in lesser degree Carbon offered. Only this time we got to play as a cop =)

LEE CHONG WEI IS GETTING A MEDAL FOR MALAYSIA!!!

Congratulations to Lee Chong Wei! You made Malaysia proud. WHOOHOO!!!

It has been 12 years Malaysia didn't have a single medal in the Olympics. This year there will be a change. I was literally rejoicing when this dude won the semi-finals in the men's single badminton event.

Look at him... so exhausted from the semi-finals against the Korean shuttler.

We'll see the finals unfold on Sunday when he will compete against Lin Dan from China. Good luck to him.

For trivia lovers, Malaysia only won a silver and 2 bronzes in 1992 and 1996 Olympics. All of them in badminton. Yea, that's it.

On the other note, there is so much controversies going on during the course of the Olympics. One of them if the age of the gymnasts from China (seriously, 16? Those girls look like they are 13 for goodness sake) and also the failure of dope tests that seem to happen every single time.

And oh, Yahoo! Sports, STOP trying to put USA on the top of the medal tally just because they got the most medals. It's pretty annoying. Place them when they actually get the most GOLD medals (which they most likely to), like the other sites do. Gah!

Beijing Olympics... Whooo!

It's here, Olympics 2008 is happening in Beijing right now and the opening ceremony is AMAZING!!! I would like to show some pictures if I have them...

The whole event is just fantastic.... Especially the fireworks display, pretty blinding your eyes even if you watch it on TV (I wonder how people cope with all the glare in the stadium)

AND... not forget the whole sporting event that are happening right now...

Best Solo Performance in this Show

Been following the show since season 2... and this is the ONLY solo performance that amazed me. Watch it and you may know why.

PS: The host, Cat Deeley actually scared to death after his performance!

Music of Today

Seriously, we REALLY need to evaluate our daily dose of popular music that has been flooding the airwaves. Music that sells now are not relied on their good sense of musicality or lyrics, instead it is the other way round: It sells 'cause it DOESN'T make sense.

Not that this is something new or anything, it has been around for years already (Blame MTV >_<). Like it or loathe it, music that sells are about sex, cheesiness, or just plain nonsense. Very few of the more meaningful songs do well in the charts, or rarely heard by the public.

I'm not going to point out any names (you can kinda guess who they are), but these people are just the bad apples that tainted the music industry so badly until it is labeled as "trashy" and "meaningless". Worse, some of them spread negative connotations and values that are purely superficial (it's all about the booty!), materialistic (being rich is the only way to happiness) and so on.

And heck, sometimes I can't help myself listening to them sometimes... :P. Anyway, no matter what genre of music you listen to, keep enjoying!

Reality TV

Or a new versions of game shows. if you want call it. The key differences are: it is set anywhere but a studio, interviews or confessionals by the contestants, painful eliminations and bigger rewards on the line.

I admit, I am a BIG fan of reality TV series. Since the debut of the first reality show (Survivor) back in 2000. (Wow, 8 years already?) I've been watching various types of it. Name one and I can tell you I have watched at least 1 episode of it.

Even though the quality of the shows slipped over the years, I still watch it irregardless. Of course some reality TV is just plain retarded. Like I heard of the shows actually designed to meant to find a appropriate donor for organ transplant! My god, why do people take other people's misery as a form of entertainment! >:(

Now that most shows are back for their new seasons, it's time to watch a new cast of people participating the good old shows, root for your favorites and hang on tight during eliminations.

TV's Back!!!!

Okay, i know i'm a bit too late for this. The Writer's Guild strike has concluded on February 12, 2008. Which means the writers are back at their studios writing scripts for our shows we love so much.

These are some of the shows resuming in a few weeks or April. I only list some of the popular shows, if you see your favorite is not here, no worries! They are back too. The ones in green are the ones I watch religiously, light blues are occasional fan of the show.
